You are not alone Charmaine. I was there for 6 months and no one spoke to me. Hey Steve, church members and staff should go out of their way to speak to new people and make them feel welcome. Apparently you don't do a lot of bible reading yourself. This church practices infant baptism and ordains women as elders. Nowhere do you find this in scripture. The church is complementarian not egalitarian.

  • My wife and I began our search for a church home shortly after getting engaged, and HOPE was exactly what we needed. The staff collectively remains in active pursuit of marital nurture. David is a historian and his sermons are packed with context to match his message; Pete will move you to tears with his passion and love for God; my wife particularly likes Nicole's ability to engage with a female perspective; and Micah is a down-to-earth servant-leader.
We leave every week's service saying "I feel like that message was meant for me," regardless of who is preaching. There are two things I would say to anyone who's had a less-than-amazing experience here:

    1) It's a relatively large church, so a small group is an absolute must. Engage in a men's, women's, or couple's group with people in similar life stages. My wife and I are in a small group and I cannot explain how pivotal it has been for us and our walk with Christ.

    2) They tell you up front in the membership class called "Discover HOPE" that this is a church of the people and you'll be expected to contribute as members. Volunteer - help in the nursery, direct traffic/parking, make coffee, whatever you can. It's so much more life-giving to contribute to the church experience.

I pray that, if HOPE is not your church home, your search turns up a place that suits your wants and needs, so that all people may hear the message of God's love. HOPE has been exactly what my young family needs.

  • Worship is anointed. Pastor preaches the Word, and challenges the congregation to grow.

The leader of youth leader blocked me. The leader was ok with people dipping on a retreat while using your phone was not ok. I even told him that I was texting my mom. And the leader wont let me back. I thought churches were supposed to be welcoming and be forgiving. Guess that is not the case with hope church.
